You have questions, we have answers!
Read on to discover important details about our exciting new facility. We’ll continue to add updates as the project progresses. Don’t see what you’re looking for? Please send an email to JWL@halifax.ymca.ca.
When are you opening?
We anticipate an early 2020 opening. Large scale construction projects like this are complex and have many moving parts, and so building takes time. We will communicate the opening date as soon as possible because we are so excited to reintroduce the YMCA’s inclusive model to the community. But first we are focused on ensuring we build the highest quality facility we can to meet the needs of as many Haligonians as possible.
What are some of the main facility features?
With 70,000 square feet of space, we’ve got something for everyone, including: three pools and a state-of-the-art gym, two levels of strength and cardio equipment, an indoor walking/running/wheeling track, four wellness studios for classes and programming, a childminding centre to support parents and caregivers while they work out, a Child and Family Development Centre with community rooms, and a public great hall for everyday gathering, special events and community celebrations.
Will the facility be open to everyone, including non-members?
YES! Our YMCA prides itself on being the most inclusive place around. You do not need a membership to use the Y. Day passes will be available at reasonable rates so that everyone in the HRM can enjoy this centre of community. There will also be access to community spaces like our centre of reflection and great hall at no charge.
What’s included in a membership?
All memberships include unlimited, all-inclusive access to swim lessons, fitness classes, pools, cardio, recreational programming, and ultimate flexibility - no cancellation fee, and membership holds for up to three months in a calendar year. We will also offer special member rates for personal training, small group training, day camps, and specialty programs.
What will your membership rates be?
Rates will be available this fall. We want to make sure we have those details just right to ensure affordability for as many individuals and families as possible. Did you know that the YMCA also offers financial assistance? We never turn away an interested member because of a lack of financial means. We look forward to sharing more details in the near future.
Is the site accessible by public transit?
Yes, there will be a main transportation hub close by for public transit.
Is there parking nearby?
Yes, there will be public paid parking available in the parking garage below the YMCA, paid parking at the park lane mall garage, outdoor paid parking just north of the facility on Sackville street, and street parking close by.
What will your hours of operation be?
Monday to Friday, 5 am – 10 pm
Saturday and Sunday, 7 am – 8 pm
